The Seasons

We are a large, non-auditioned choir that has performed a wide and varied repertoire from Mozart to Tavener for over 130 years.  We aspire to a high musical standard and aim to thrill our concert audiences.  Joined by professional musicians such as the renowned chamber orchestra London Concertante and the region's leading orchestra Southern Sinfonia, we perform three concerts a year in the Newbury area.  Our regular venues are St Nicolas Church, Newbury and the beautiful Abbey Church at Douai Abbey, Woolhampton. We hope you enjoy browsing our website and look forward to welcoming you at our rehearsals or at our next concert .

Our 2017 - 2018 season of concerts

In April 2018 we performed Messa da Requiem by Guiseppe Verdi. This enormous work requires a huge orchestra and double choir, so we joined forces with Billingshurst Choral Society and in a departure the venue was Basingstoke’s The Anvil. This was very exciting as we have been trying to organise this work for a number of years. With the London Uylsses Orchestra, soprano: Elizabeth Donovan, mezzo-soprano: Hannah Pedley, tenor: David Junghoon Kim, bass: Keel Watson and a combined choir of 190 singers, the concert was a spectacular and memorable evening. Our summer season saw us return to Douai Abbey in June 2018 for Visions of Albion, a festival of the finest English choral music. The choir performed some familiar and much lovedworks by Elgar, Vaughan Williams, Stanford, Parry, Finzi and Tavener. Joined by baritone Ben McAteer the concert was a huge success. We hoped for a balmy evening and the weather didn't disappoint. To view Fiona Bennett's review in the Newbury Weekly News click here.

Our winter season saw us perform Handel: Samson with the London Ulysses Orchestra at St Nicolas Church, Newbury.
