  GCWP17 event

Over forty people attended a recent introductory music session for the Greenham Common War and Peace event (GWP17) which will take place in September. This large-scale outdoor spectacle, to mark the twentieth anniversary of Greenham Common Trust, will portray 100 years of history of the Common, in periods of war and peace. A short drama by playwright Beth Flintoff forms the heart of the event, with musical accompaniment specially composed by top TV, film and theatre composer Nick Bicat. Members of the town's long-established choir, Newbury Choral Society, will form the strong core of singers, joined by anyone who is enthusiastic to take part, whether or not they already belong to a singing group.

NCS Chairman Liz Wallace says: "Nick has written three songs for this which we'll be learning, along with some additional material. The music is very tuneful and we had great fun trying it out, as well as meeting some of the actors who will be in the show. There will be two more rehearsals before early July and then we'll come together again in September. Anyone who enjoys singing is welcome to join us, whether or not you have any previous experience."

The next rehearsal will be on Sunday 21 May, 2.30-4.30pm at New Greenham Arts, Greenham Business Park. New singers are invited to turn up on the day from 2pm (refreshments provided). For more details, email, call 07595 632234 or visit
