Choir Profile

We are a friendly choir with over 100 members of all ages, from the young to the not so young.  We perform a wide and varied repertoire of familiar choral works by composers such as Bach and Mozart, to less frequently performed pieces by more recent composers such as Tippett, Tavener and Rachmaninov.

As an unauditioned and inclusive choir, we expect members to be able to read music (but not necessarily to sight read) and, of course, to be able to sing in tune. Don't worry if you are returning to singing after a long break.  In a large choir like ours you have time to fit in and learn, because there will be plenty of people around you singing the right notes!

Rehearsals are every Monday evening during term time, from 7:30pm to 9:30pm at the Methodist Church Hall, Newbury.

Why not come along and see what you think? You will be made very welcome.

We also run an annual workshop. This provides a chance for our members to get together with singers from other choirs, to experience a different conductor and often to rehearse a work that is rarely performed.  Sometimes the workshop serves as a taster of a piece that we are going to perform in concert in the future.

If you would like to know more about the history of the Society and the works that have been performed since our first concert in 1885, please go to Performance History.
