We are a large, non-auditioned choir that has performed a wide and varied repertoire from Mozart to Tavener for over 125 years.  We aspire to a high musical standard and aim to thrill our concert audiences.  Joined by professional musicians such as the renowned chamber orchestra London Concertante and the region's leading orchestra Southern Sinfonia, we perform three concerts a year in the Newbury area.  Our regular venues are St Nicolas Church, Newbury and the beautiful Abbey Church at Douai Abbey, Woolhampton. Our programme of Music for Passiontide on 23 March was planned especially for the resonant acoustic and unique atmosphere of Douai Abbey.  Choir, conductor, organist and string quartet braved the snow to make it to the afternoon rehearsal – the show must go on!  Cathal thanked our intrepid audience for coming out on a night that bore more resemblance to Christmas than to the first week of Spring.  And if Carolyn Greenwood's review in the Newbury Weekly News was anything to go by, they would have been so glad they did.  The commitment shown by everyone involved to do justice to this music, and the appreciation of those listening, were tangible.  According to Carolyn, one audience member said they felt honoured to be there; the feeling in the choir was mutual.
